Policy regarding taking in Malamutes at Golden Years AMR
|
|
Due to the overwhelming number of Alaskan Malamutes that are turning up in shelters, or being
abandoned, the Directors of Golden Years decided to develop a policy regarding how we will handle requests for help.
Golden Years was opened to serve the senior Malamute (8 years and older) however we do help
younger ones as space allows. Listed below is the criteria we will use for each case:
#1 Purebred Alaskan Malamutes 8 years and older have first priority.
#2 Malamutes of any age in a kill shelter in Michigan
#3 Owner turn-ins due to extenuating circumstances. Each case will be reviewed by the
Board of Directors as to whether we can take in the dog. Taking a dog under these
circumstances is very rare due to space limitations.
We do offer an owner assistance program to help owners find a new home for their Mal, while still
keeping the dog in their care. This program allows the current owner to be the one to decide who will adopt the dog. Golden Years assumes no liability for any owner assistance program dog. |
