Champ
Champ was a real charmer. He was found running stray in Sandpoint, Idaho. The shelter
estimated he was about 11 years old. Although he was old and his coat was tattered, Champ's
unfailing gentleness and affectionate nature, made him some friends that truly saved his life. Most
shelters would have put down a ragged old dog, but Champ was special. All Champ wanted was a
home of his own with his very own humans for him to love and to love him. He spent months in
foster care and he had just been promised a "forever" place with Shirley Thomas of Golden Years
who would be his long term foster mom if no adopter was found.

Only days before he was to be transported to Golden Years, Champ ran out of time. He bloated
and had to be euthanized to end his pain. Ironically AMAL received an inquiry from a potential
adopter shortly before he died.

Champ was rescued from the shelter and placed in foster care by Karen Hertel. Champ was
sponsored and faithfully loved by Carol Peck, who was captivated by his smile. Champ died
