Akkadian came to us early in 2021 from a horrible neglect situation. He had spent his entire life in an outdoor kennel with almost no contact with the world. His entire purpose? To breed him to other females. Nothing more. The only reason the owner surrendered him? Because they were moving and didn't want him anymore. We were told he was 17 years old but that is highly doubtful as we guess him to be about 11-12 years old. It took several hours and two people to get slip leashes around his neck to get him out of the kennel he was in and then up in to the truck to get back to our kennel. Lots and lots of hot dogs were used! Akkadian trusted no one since he never knew a loving hand. Heather worked hard to earn his trust and eventually she was able to coax him from our kennel and to walk a bit. In a few days he would lean on Heather voluntarily. Then he accepted a regular leash and a collar. From there he started to come out of his shell. He absolutely trusts Heather and when he did a partial play bow it brought tears to the humans. He's never seen a vet, his coat is a horrible stinky mess but he has the whitest teeth we've ever seen on a senior dog! Akkadian will be a forever resident at FSFH to live out his years knowing how to play in the grass and going for walks, and be loved as he deserves. Hopefully we can get him comfortable wearing a muzzle so we can get him thoroughly checked out at the vet. We are going to be shocked if he does not have heartworms. Akkadian loves having doggie neighbors and he actually tries to play with the other dog in the next kennel.
