On August 25, 2022 the rescue world lost a special woman with a passion for rescue, especially for the senior Alaskan Malamutes. You can read about how things started with us on our "About Us" page. Shirley died tragically as the result of a car accident.
Shirley helped hundreds of Malamutes via placement through our rescue or coaching folks who had a malamute with issues, so the owner could work with their Mal, so they could stay with their owners. No question was dumb or silly.......they were important to the owner so they were important to Shirley as well. She was amazing with the public and it was a joy to watch her at the various events we attended together over 20+ years. Below is a little slide show of some highlights (the captions are in the lower left of the picture). It was hard to narrow things down as I have over 1,000 pictures spanning all these years. There was speculation that Golden Years would close but we could not let that happen. We are still assisting the malamutes and will continue to do so, to make sure we keep Shirley's legacy alive and well. Not only did I lose a rescue partner of 22 years, but my best friend as well. So many stories passed with her, I wish I had written them down or recorded them. We could have had a book full of 20 years of antics and shenanigans with our dogs! She is dearly missed by all of us at Golden Years AMR
Shirl, I know you were greeted by hundreds of malamutes and they gave you your very own Silver Harness. Godpseed Shirley Love, Carol
